Kerala Style Chaala/ Mathi Fry | Sardine Fry

- 1. Sardine - 250 gms (8 Nos) - Cleaned and gashed (Chaala/ Mathi)

- 2. Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon (Manjalpodi)
- 3. Red chilly powder - 1/2 Teaspoon (Mulakpodi)
- 4. Pepper corns - 1/2 Teaspoon (Kurumulak)
- 5. Garlic - 5 Nos (Veluthulli)
- 6. Shallots - 3 Nos (Chuvannulli)
- 7. Salt - As required
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 8. Coconut oil - 2 Tablespoon
Instructions
- Make a smooth paste of ingredients 2 – 7.
- Marinate the fish with the ground paste for 10 minutes.
- Tawa fry both sides of the fish in coconut oil, flip in between.

• Chaala/ Mathi can be shallow fried or till crispy according to your taste buds. I prefer a crispy version • Chaala/ Mathi fry can be made with pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt alone. It also tastes good.
