Nadan Kozhi Mulakittathu is a Malabari (North Kerala) spicy chicken curry with Country Chicken/ Desi Murga.
What is the name ‘Nadan Kozhi Mulakittathu’ means?
Nadan – Countryside/ Authentic
Kozhi – Chicken
Mulakittathu – Spicy gravy with red chilly powder.
That’s it.
Even though I’ve heard about ‘Nadan Kozhi Mulakittathu’ I never got a chance to taste it. So this time when I bought chicken I wished to make a variety dish and ended up in making ‘Kozhi Mulakittathu’. For me it’s not easy to get countryside chicken as I stay away from my home. So I made this curry with Broiler chicken and still it tasted good. Chicken with skin is best for this recipe.
I sometimes make Mulakitta Fish Curry and I’m very good at making it. But no idea how to make a ‘Kozhi Mulakittathu’. So as usual I started to create my own recipe :). What I did is, I used the ingredients for Mulakitta Meen Curry / Kollam Style Fish Curry and instead of Gambooge I added Tomato for sourness. For little more spiciness I added a teaspoon of Garam Masala in the end of the cooking.
The curry came out well with a unique flavour which reminded me an Authentic Kerala Flavour. 🙂
In Malabar side ‘Meen Mulakittathu’ is commonly eaten with ‘Pathiri’ – A type of rice hopper. There are many other combinations too as I mentioned below.
