Ingredients

  • 1. Basmati Rice - 1 Cup
  • 2. Split and peeled Green gram - 1/2 Cup (Cherupayar)
  • 3. Ghee - 2 Tablespoon
  • 4. Cumin seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon (Jeerakam)
  • 5. Cardamom - 2 Nos (Elaykka)
  • 6. Cinnamon - 2 Inch piece (Karuakpatta)
  • 7. Clove - 4 Nos (Grambu)
  • 8. Pepper corns - 1/2 Teaspoon (Kurumulak)
  • 9. Onion - 1 Cup - Sliced
  • 10. Ginger garlic paste - 1 Teaspoon
  • 11. Green chilly - 2 Nos
  • 12. French beans - 1/2 Cup - Cut into pieces
  • 13. Carrot - 1/2 Cup - Cut into pieces
  • 14. Tomato - 1/2 Cup - Cut into pieces
  • 15. Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • 16. Asafoetida powder - 1/4 Teaspoon (Kayapodi)
  • 17. Coriander leaves - 1 Handful (Malliyila)
  • 18. Mint leaves - 1 Handful (Pudina ila)
  • 19. Salt
  • 20. Water - 4 Cups

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak Basmati rice and split green gram for half an hour.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan and splutter ingredients 4 – 8.
  3. Add onion, green chillies, ginger garlic paste and salt. Saute till onion become soft.
  4. Add carrot and beans for 2 minutes.
  5. Add tomato, turmeric powder and asafoetida powder and saute for a minute.
  6. Add 4 Cups of water (approximately, change accordingly) boil it.
  7. When boiling, add soaked basmati rice, moong dal, coriander leaves and mint leaves. Mix well and close the pan with a lid.
  8. Cook till rice is perfectly cooked.
