Rava Kurukku | Semolina Porridge | Rava Payasam

Rava Kurukku – Easy Kerala style porridge breakfast made of semolina. “Kurukku” recipes are usually given to toddlers but this recipe is good for adults too. ?

You can adjust the thickness of the porridge by adding more water. Though we use more water it will become thick as cooling down. Stir continuously to not form lumps and not to stick on the bottom of the pan.

As we are adding ghee, milk and sugar it taste like “payasam”. So a quick payasam is ready with in minutes. ?

Ingredients

  • 1. Roasted semolina(Rava) - 1/4 Cup - Roasted
  • 2. Milk - 1 Cup
  • 3. Water - 2 Cup
  • 4. Sugar – 1 ½ to 2 Tablespoon
  • 5. Salt - 1 Small pinch
  • 6. Ghee - 1 Teaspoon (Optional)
  • 7. Cashew Nut - Few for garnishing - Chopped
  • 8. Cardamom powder – 1/8 Teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Boil milk, water, sugar and salt in a thick bottom pan.
  2. Add semolina and stir continuously without forming any lumps in a low heat.
  3. Cook it for 3 minutes (or till the porridge thickens) continuously stirring.
  4. Add cardamom powder and ghee, stir well and switch off the flame.
  5. Garnish with chopped cashew nuts.
  6. Serve hot or cooled down.

  1. പാലും വെള്ളയും പഞ്ചസാരയും ഉപ്പും ചുവടു കട്ടിയുള്ള പാത്രത്തിൽ തിളപ്പിക്കുക.
  2. തിളച്ചു കഴിയുമ്പോൾ റവ ഇട്ടു അടിയിൽ പിടിക്കാതെ ഇളക്കി കൊണ്ട് ഇരിക്കുക.
  3. റവ വെന്തു കുറുകുമ്പോൾ നെയ്യും ഏലയ്ക്ക പൊടിയും ചേർത്ത് വാങ്ങുക.
  4. നുറുക്കിയ കശുവണ്ടി വച്ച് അലങ്കരിച്ചു ചൂടോടെയോ തണുത്തിട്ടോ കഴിക്കുക.
  5. ഇരിക്കുംതോറും കുറുകുമെന്നുള്ളതിനാൽ വേവിക്കുമ്പോൾ അധികം കുറുക്കണ്ട കാര്യമില്ല.
